Arbor Low & Gib Hill Project Information

We are pleased to bring you more details about our fieldtrip to Arbor Low & Gib Hill. This digital trail, developed as part of Collections in the Landscape, uses audio commentary by archaeologist Dr John Barnatt, images of museum collections, and the landscape itself, to explore what meanings Arbor Low & Gib Hill may have held in prehistory, and what they have meant to subsequent generations of antiquarians, archaeologists and modern visitors. There is also the option to dig deeper into information, to find out more about museum objects or the monuments themselves.

To book your place, simply let us know the date of the session you’d like to attend and whether or not you need a seat on the bus. E-mail CITL@derbyshire.gov.uk.

When: Fieldtrips are planned for Friday 7th and Saturday 8th March

Transport:
We will be able to take a limited number of people from Buxton and back via minibus. Seats are available on a ‘first come first served’ basis. Alternatively, participants can make their own arrangements and meet us on site.

How much will it cost?: Nothing! Transport from Buxton is provided (see above for notes on availability) and we’ll cover the £1 access charge to the site. Complimentary refreshments are also provided on our return to the museum.

Participants are responsible for their own travel costs in travelling to and from the museum at the start/end of the trip. Participants meeting us at Arbor Low are also responsible for their own travel costs and arrangements.

What you will need: Wear warm, waterproof clothes and sensible footwear. If you wish, bring a packed lunch to eat on site or on our return to the museum. Bring a smartphone or tablet if you are able, but please ensure you happy to use it outside and that it can access mobile internet. You should also make sure you’ve read and understood our disclaimer below*. We will send you a link through which you can access the trail, closer to the time.

If you don’t own suitable technology, members of the team will be on hand with demonstration devices to take you through the tour and to let you have a go.

Plan for each day:
10:00am – Minibus passengers meet at Buxton Museum & Art Gallery
10:45am – Arrival at Arbor Low & Gib Hill
11:00am – Time to follow the trail, explore the site and eat lunch
